Fresh Meat Danceteria 15 "Climate" - The Cushion "Get Moving Mix Tape #1"
This week's deep mix for the Danceteria is by Chicago's The Cushion. Here is what he has to say about the mix:
First off, I am honored to have this mix selected by Fresh Meat for their podcast series. Its the first mix I've recorded in some time and I really wanted to put something together that was as much for me as anyone else. I wanted to select tracks that didn't sound dated but reminded me of the sounds I heard bouncing off the cement walls in Detroit factories in the early & mid 90's. Its my goal to always play music that has a timeless quality, and is simply good for being good and with that in mind while making the mix I wanted to give the tracks time to breathe and develop in order to portray the producer(s) full thoughts and ideas. Too many DJs these days are using a quick mixing style that supports and nutures their audiences short attention spans by trying to cram as many tracks as they can into one hour and 20 minutes. While that style may have a place, I believe in music and its ability to overcome a short attention span with a solid soulful groove, intriguing movements and absorbing sounds. As far as programming goes, I wanted what I always want which is to take the dancer/listener on a journey. I always want my sets/mixes to be something where the listener finds themselves lost in the music with no concept of the passing time or of the shifting of energy between the tracks. Hopefully this mix accomplishes all of that in a fun and interesting way, but I guess you get to be the judge of that.
I make and play music that both hits your soul and moves your feet.
My mixes are always done live, by hand using vinyl records and/or vinyl control records and Serato Scratch Live. The only post production added are drops and mastering. NOTHING IS EDITED OR PIECED TOGETHER. What you hear is what you get if you come see me play.
I want people to dance because they FEEL the music again, not just because they hear it and think they should be dancing.
